Military Friendly Schools? List Offers Proprietary Data to Government

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 26, 2012

The creators of the Military Friendly Schools? list reaffirm their 10-year commitment to helping military veterans make informed decisions about choosing civilian education by offering their proprietary student veteran data to the Congress and federal agencies. The list, which is compiled annually, has been in place since before the post-9/11 GI Bill went into effect.

President Obama issued an executive order on April 27 aimed at protecting educational benefits for veterans in light of recent allegations about predatory schools with abusive and deceptive recruiting tactics, poor graduation rates and suspect academic credibility. The Military Friendly Schools? list is offering to help the government by sharing its extensive and proprietary research data on veterans in school to help identify behaviors that define the bad actors and lead to reform.

Our list has always been out in front, helping veterans better understand their education options. We invest heavily in research, collecting data on everything from graduation rates to academic accreditations and next year, post-education employment figures. Most importantly, we have always encouraged schools to behave in a manner that most benefits veterans, said Sean Collins, Vice President of Victory Media, a service-disabled, veteran-owned business which researches and publishes the list.

Military Friendly Schools? is the only known list of institutions which possesses and measures student outcome data, graduation rates and student veteran support services in defining standards of excellence. We have long used this data along with their academic accreditation in determining which schools are military friendly, said Susan T. Meyer, Director of MSBA Programs, College of Business, Colorado State University and a Military Friendly Schools? Advisory Board member.

The 2013 list, which will be released in September, is making additional changes aimed at preventing overly aggressive recruiting tactics. For years, we have made it known which schools have an inordinately high percentage of military students. Previously we viewed that as a good thing for veterans. However, some high percentage veteran schools have seemingly been established solely to take advantage of military tuition assistance and GI Bill funding. So this year, we are curbing those schools chances of making the list by refining our point system in regard to optimum veteran enrollment, said Collins. Next year, we also plan to incorporate post-graduation employment rates and government reported infractions.

The Military Friendly Schools? list is also the first known entity, government or private, to measure student and alumni feedback, which began last year and will be incorporated into this years list results. The list, published annually in The Guide to Military Friendly Schools, which also includes articles important to student veterans, has long been a critical tool in creating awareness for veterans and their families about colleges and schools.
